Hello! My name is Noelle Markuson and this is my sixth year teaching Comprehensive Development. I've lived in Tennessee for six years and I have enjoyed making Clarksville my home. I am deeply committed to supporting students with diverse learning needs and I strive to create a warm, nurturing environment so that all students can achieve their personal best. Outside of teaching, I enjoy reading, crocheting, gardening, spending time outdoors, and snuggling with my cat, Olivia.

  1. Safety First
  • All classroom activities will prioritize the physical and emotional safety of every student. 
  • Staff will follow all IEP accommodations, health plans, and behavior support plans. 

     2. Respectful Communication

  • All interactions between staff, students, and families will be conducted with patience, respect, and empathy. 
  • We will model positive social and communication skills for students at all times. 

     3. Individualized Instruction

  • Lessons are tailored to each student's needs, abilities, and goals as outlined in their IEP.
  • Instruction will include a variety of methods: hands-on learning, visuals, technology supports, and real-world applications.

     4. Collaboration and Teamwork

  • Staff will work together to provide consistent support for all students. 
  • We welcome collaboration with related service providers, families, and other educators to ensure student success.

     5. Positive Behavior Support

  • We will use proactive strategies to encourage positive behaviors and independence. 
  • Expectations for students will be clear, consistent, and reinforced throughout the day. 

     6. High Expectations for All 

  • We believe every student can learn and grow. 
  • Progress will be monitored regularly, and instruction will be adjusted to promote continued achievement. 

     7. Family Partnership

  • Parents/Guardians are encouraged to share insights, concerns, and celebrations regarding their child's progress.

 

                Peer Mentor Program - Rules & Expectations

Purpose: Our Peer Mentor Program pairs general education students with students in the Comprehensive Development Classroom (CDC) to promote inclusion, friendship, and skill-building in a safe and supportive environment. 

  1. Be a Positive Role Model
  • Use respectful, encouraging language at all times. 
  • Demonstrate appropriate behavior in and out of the classroom.
  • Follow all school rules and classroom expectations.

     2. Show Respect and Patience

  • Treat all students with kindness and understanding. 
  • Be patient with differences in communication, learning, or behavior. 
  • Listen actively when your peer is speaking or using a communication device. 

     3. Maintain Confidentiality

  • Do not share personal or sensitive information about your peer. 
  • Respect your peer's privacy both in person and online. No cell phones will be tolerated in the CDC classroom.

     4. Participate Fully 

  • Arrive on time and ready to engage in activities. 
  • Follow directions from the teacher or supervising staff. 
  • All phones and classwork outside of the CDC room should be put away during mentor time. 

     5. Encourage Independence 

  • Support your peer without doing tasks for them.
  • Offer help only when needed or requested by the teacher. 
  • Celebrate effort and progress, not just results. 

     6. Keep a Safe Environment

  • Report any safety concerns immediately to staff. 
  • Follow all safety procedures during classroom and community activities.

     7. Communicate with Staff

  • Ask questions if you're unsure what to do. 
  • Share any concerns or challenges with the teacher privately.
